Ran it outta gas - getting it running again. 200 1984

My wife ran our '84 240 wagon outta gas the other day. I tried the simple route of putting in more gas - didn't start. So I suspected an issue with the pumps.

Finally got it running after doing a few tests, but the ONLY way it will run is with a "jumper-wire" between the #5 and #7 fuses. I think my fuel pump relays (located on the passenger side floor - appearantly only done in '83 and '84) are bad. I picked up one at the local Volvo shop (they only had one). I plugged this new one into the bottom relay socket (I think it's the main relay).

So, I can get it to run but I need to run a "jumper-wire" from the #5 and #7 fuses and then another "jumper-wire" on the top relay socket (the 30 and 87 sockets).

I'm trying to figure out - I've got another relay coming, but should I be looking for anything else. It seems my pumps work since the car is running, but seems strange I need to run a wire between the fuses.

I've tried to keep this one simple...so any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks.

rolly
