Tail light question 200

For some unknown reason the only lens that can be intentionally separated from the housing is the reverse light lens, the clear one.

Getting the reverse lens out has not been a problem for me, they seem to come out by themselves!

On my 1986 and 1988 244s the only white bulb holder (socket?) is in the passenger side lower outer location. It holds a 2-filament bulb, the 5W 4 Candle Power light being the marker lamp, the other being the 21Watt 32CP brake light. All the other bulb holders are black.

If your car has a white bulb holder on the left, that is an error. The 21 watt brake light makes enough heat to cause damage to the housing if it is lighted as a marker light.

If your repair is to the bulb holder(s) or the printed circuit board, there should be no need to separate the lenses from the housing.

Check with the BB advertisers for an after-market circuit board. For a new housing, I always go to eBay. Caveats there are that a tail light from a 1985 or older won't work without modifications, and non-Volvo lights have a history of early failure (according to brickboarders).

Good Luck,

Bob
