rear floor mat and rear heat vents 120-130

I have a 65, 120 wagon and I have an interior design question.

In the interior, there is an elongated black plastic funnel piece that covers the top of the tranny tunnel from under the dash to just pas the front seats. It has an intake at one end that takes air from the inside fan and two outlets at the far end that expels air to the back seat floor. In other words, it is the way to direct warm air to the feet of the back seat occupants.

I put in a new (used) rear rubber floor mat (there was no mat when I got the car) and it fits and looks perfect. However, it covers up the rear vents on the funnel piece - which means that the warm air going to the rear is now directed under the rear mat. If I tuck the rear mat under the funnel piece to expose the vents, it doesn't look quite proper.

Did I miss something? Cut holes for the vents? (I hope not).

Thanks. Waggin.
