Overcharging problem 700

I was driving the '84 760 Turbo today in the rain with the lights on, climate system running, stereo on, and wipers on. The voltmeter went up into the red zone over on the positive side and all of the lights suddenly became really bright. I could also hear the blower motor speed up for a few seconds. The needle on the voltmeter then went back to normal range. I think that this sounds like a problem with the voltage regulator. The alternator is a rebuilt one that I put on about 5 years ago. The car did this overcharging episode once or twice before.

Thanks in advance,
Dave
