Brake light-bulb failure light S90-V90

I thought about hi-jacking the brake light thread but thought this might be a better idea. I have a 97 965. The bulb failure light went off when one stepped on the brake. It turned out to be the left rear. I replaced the bulb. Did not solve the problem. Replaced the bulb again, did not solve the problem. I remembered looking at the pulled bulb and it didn't look bad. Any suggestions? The right brake light and hatch light work fine. The tail light works fine. For some reason the brake light won't work. Wiring? Socket? Anybody else have a problem like this?
