altenator/battery

When you get it going, test the system voltage. If it is not MORE than
13 Volts, all the jumping in the world will not help.
Maybe the alternator is defective, the battery is shot or it is not
wired correctly. Also there is a possibility of a short in the system
which would run the battery down.

It is generally not good practice to replace things until you know what needs
to be replaced.
