Don't feel bad, Pooch. Happens to all of us - and if you think it is bad
now wait another 35 or 45 years.... I live there!

You may have to buy the center rod ends as a pair. Be SURE you know which
one you need if you only get one because they have opposite threads so you
can adjust it by turning the center section. Order by the THREAD, not which
side it is mounted on (because the rod may be installed backward).
