piston rings 1800

I am assuming you are checking the end gaps after carefully placing a ring into the bore and squaring it up with the ringless piston top. Ring gap minimum is about .004 per inch of bore, so with a 3 1/2 inch bore, about .014 inch. Unless the gap is very large, say over .030 or .75mm I would not be concerned.
Be sure the correct ring is in the correct groove, and oriented for up if that is identified. Stagger the gaps in line with the piston pin (180 degrees apart in other words)
