Engine teardown. 120-130

Hello Mario m.:

I have little experience with what you are facing except the area of timing gears. I assume he was suggesting the steel gear set, and in general people around here poo-poo the idea unless you are doing some racing. The fiber gears are pretty great until they fail and when they do they save a heck of a lot of the engine in other ways. Since the beast is being rebuilt anyway I would put on a new fiber gear and save the extra as a spare if you die on a long road trip.

If you do go with steel gears, make sure they get a matching steel crankshaft gear. The fiber and steel gears apparently have a different pitch or something.

Cheers,

Jeff Pucillo
