Overdrive wiring 444-544

Happy new year to all!
My '65 PV has a '75 140 tranny and overdrive. During the winter lull I have taken to install one of Ron's alternator conversions and a great deal of wiring updates. The wiring by the PO that installed the OD was complex. More so than seemed necessary. What has me confused is that the 1st gear lock-out switch is closed in 1st gear. How do you wire the system to be OFF when in first (and reverse). I am running a relay on the OD though I understand it is not required. Also, the reverse switch seems to be inoperable as it is open even when the ball is pushed in. Anyone have a spare? Lucus (prince of darkness) part 141 SA.
Thanks for any help you can provide a confused old man!
Chris
