Mounting the coil 120-130

I've been planning on eventually upping to a D-Jet setup from my scrapped 1800E. So, I went ahead and put the blue bosch coil in to replace the original coil. The original had been spliced for an electronic ignition long ago. The original coil is also too weak to work with a fuel injected system.

Anyway. I also had two large A/C hose holes and a couple smaller mounting holes for an aftermarket pedal brake light switch next to my coil so my firewall was a tad "leaky."

I picked up a small piece of 22 gauge sheet steel from the hardware store, shaped it a bit to fit the curve in the firewall and slathered it with 3M weatherstrip adhesive and then used half a dozen self-tapping sheet metal screws to secure it to the firewall covering all four holes. This provided a smooth mounting surface and also keeps the engine smells and unwanted drain water off of my floorboard.

I then took the 1800 style omega-shaped coil mounting and bolted it to the patched firewall and secured the coil into the clip. This puts the later style (easier to replace) coil in the same location and allowed me to keep my short coil wire and avoided rerouting a lot of ignition and tach wiring.

I'll get around to painting the patch to match when I get around to painting the car...
