Generator 140-160

It does appears someone swapped in a GM generator that doens't line-up with the pulleys.

When was an alternator used on the 144? For those that might have switched. Is it an easy change over to go with an alternator? If so what alternator and rating should I look for? Is it mounted on the same side as the passenger side generator? What about the mount? Do you need an exernal regulator as well? Do you need to cut into the wiring to connect it all. Lots of questions I guess.
