Overdrive question - 900

Since I have owned my 96 960, whenever I let off the throttle at speed, the transmission will downshift out of its final overdrive (rpms rise slightly). Then, when I reapply throttle, it will go back to overdrive (final gearing). I would prefer it to stay at the final drive during the off-throttle coasting.

Is this normal? Torque-converter?
