water pump gone bad on a 90?????? 200 1990

The car is suddenly running rough, and there is a squealing similar to a belt slipping. there is a gravely noise coming from the front of the engine. I am assuming this means that the water pump is dead and needs replacing. Any thoughts?...suggestions....am I barking up the wrong tree?
