Transmisison replacement 200 1989

I have a 89 240 DL with a dead transmission. The syncros (sp?) for first gear have gone out and I can't get the car into first. My friend has a 79 240 DL that has no engine. Both are standard, the 89 has a 5 speed and the 79 is a 4 speed. Does anyone know if the 79 4 speed transmission will bolt up to the 89 engine? I am am pretty sure it is wishful thinking at this point, but if it would work then I get a free transmission.
