Diagnosing Rear Suspension Noises Redux 900 1994

This was the original thread that I started back in late November/06:

http://www.brickboard.com/RWD/index.htm?id=1130925

I did replace the panhard bushings and found the lower one was pretty much toast but it turned out that wasn't the source of the knocking noises I was having. Grrr.....

Going on Mapleleafer's advice I then re-checked the rear shock on the passenger side by grabbing and wiggling it and found there was a very small amount of movement so I tightened up the lower and upper mounting bolts and presto !! Noise be gone ! Yaaay !! :) Amazing how much noise there was coming out of that little bit of movement on that one rear shock.

So the moral of the story is if you've got some knocks coming out of one or both of the rear corners of a 940, try tightning up those shock bolts before you spend a lot of time trying to find a problem with one of suspension bushings.

Thanks to everyone who offered suggestions.

Roger
