Heatercore replacement missing wire?? also bench testing fan motor? 200 1990

Hi all
I've been working on a heater core /fan motor project and have finally gotten the whole unit out the other day. when i was looking at everything i realized my new fan motor has one less spot for a wire, that the previous motor had a spot for. By spot i mean space in the new fan speed switch female plug. It just isn't there. The wire in question is a big black and white 10-12 gauge wire that can be seen here.

i was just wondering what this wire goes to or if its necessary to somehow work into the new switch..
Also just wondering if anybody has a good method for bench testing my new fan motor..
thanks
cp
