Alternator/charging problem 700

Hello,

My '84 760 T's charging system has been acting weird. About six years ago, I had an alternator put on at an indy shop. Ever since, the car has overcharged every now and then. The volt meter works its way into the red and all of the lights become very bright. I replaced the voltage regulator the other day but the problem still occurs. The car has also had a new wiring harness in the engine bay.

The shop that put the alternator on said that they used a higher amperage unit. I'm not sure what is supposed to be on the car ( maybe a 70 A? ).

I'd appreciate some advice with this.

Thanks,
Dave
