head gasket or bent valve?? cost of labor to replace ?? 700 1989

I posted recently on a power loss with mechanical noise. I now suspect the dreaded failed headgasket. Never any recent overheating or fluid losses. Compression only 25-30# front 2 cylinders on this non turbo 8 valve.

Started with strange engine sound that is mechanical like a clicking or tapping with associated power loss.

Is it possible or likely that at 140K on a car that has had 2 years of superb maintenance that suddenly without warning the gasket would go or a valve would break?

It looks like the head must be pulled in any case and I am probably not up to the job... Can those of you with first hand knowledge advise me on what to expect for cost?

How many hours of labor to pull the head and replace the gasgets?
I realize it may need machining and valve work too but am wondering mainly about hours of labor involved...

Thanks for any help,

Paul
