Headers vs. Double Downpipe??? 120-130

Many years ago I had a set of HOOKER Headers on a CORTINA GT 2 Liter ... power increase was really noticeable. However, I found that as they got older, especially with winter driving here in Nova Scotia, I started having more and more problems keeping the runners attached at both the collector and at the flange. While some of the problem may have been due to corrosion, I think the majority was caused by vibration set up by the engine. I eventually had to give up on the headers and revert to the stock manifold. When I rebuilt Ole Reliable's B20E, I acquired a dual down pipe manifold and have had absolutely no problems since. I would say that there is no question that a header makes more power, but I would opt for a set of coated headers rather than the cheaper plain ones. Even then I wonder how they will stand up under normal wear and tear.

Don't know if anyone watched "HORSEPOWER" on SPIKE when they did the dyno session with various header designs or not, but if you want max bang for the buck the "TRI-Y" seems to be the way to go.

Be interested to hear which way you decide to go ...

regards

Brett
