HRAD cold start and high idle - Regina 700

During extreme cold, I can only start my 1991, 740 (140000) by pumping the gas feed hard and fast. I know it sounds stupid but that's the way it is. When it does get warmed up it idles at about 2000, so I have to leave it in gear or turn it off. Do these things bring anything to mind to you experts out there?
It's really hard to stay warm when I'm waiting for my wife to get off work.....
