After a fairly long haitus, Ive put the green monster back on the road.
Something new has developed with the OIL light. I tends to flicker now at idle.
But only after the engine has warmed up (its been hovering about 5-20 degrees F out lately). And only at a low idle, Id estimate that it stops around 900 rpm.
none of the other idiot lights flicker along with it, but the fuel guage is always off, so I'm wondering if there is something going on with the voltage regulator on the instrument panel.
Oil level is exactly where I left it when filling it up with that penzoil high-mileage stuff. Im reasonably sure oil is circulating due to the smoke when downshifting at highway speeds. (valve stem seals are a little sloppy, I'm getting to that))
Also the engine isnt acting like its low on oil, its not hesitating or getting hot.
It did this last summer after spraying down the engine with some Gunk engine bright ang hosed the engine down, getting the oil sensor wet.
Never the less, I checked the oil level, and pulled the valve cover to make sure oil was circulating. All looked well and the light went off once the sensor dried out.
So, does anyone know if this is a sign of the oil pump starting to go (Ive only heard of them suddenly quiting when the shaft breaks). Or if this just means that that the sensor is getting flakey, or the connection getting cruddy.
engine is a stock 1970 B20B with a weber and about 160K miles.
