Late 740 blower motor substitution with pre '90 unit? 700 1991

Hi everyone:

The blower motor on my '91 740 likely needs replacement (two blown resistor packs in three months probably due to high current draw - only runs on high again.) It is also getting noisy...

My question has to do with interchangeability. Has anyone tried using a pre '90 740 blower in a '90+ 740? The price difference between the two is significant and frustrating. I was wondering how different they are (other than one vs. two terminals.) Any experience is appreciated.

Thanks!

Andrew S.
