temp needle GOES UP INTO THE RED!! 200

My 1991 240 is doing wierd things! The temp guge has ALWAYS been fluctuating...it's down it goes up, nothing that has been so unusual. I heard thAT THE 240'S have either a computer or sensor thing that makes the needle read incorrectly...I just forgot what it is that makes it react that way. Does anyone have a good explanation? All the years it;s been eratic, it never went into and stayed in the red...except now..The car IS NOT over heating...new thermostat, new radiator no leaks, good hoses...just the same but the needle now after the new thermostat, there are times on a cold day, the needle will go nito the red for a half hour then comes down to the regular spot...what's going on ...any ideas? thanks, lynn at chmtnbliss@cs.com
