This has been discussed before, but the latest I've found in archive is more than a year old.

My 98' S90 popped-up the Check engine light last night, so I am finally ready to spend some cash on a reasonably priced scanner and/or software.

Any suggestions, experiences would be greatly appreciated.
I also have a 02' Subaru Legacy, so it would be nice if both cars were covered.
