Charging system woes 140-160

After being stranded in the middle of nowhere many times because of the $(#%$ Volvo alternator or voltage regulator and not being able to get a replacement, this is what I did while stuck in the middle of Nevada.

I converted all of my '70's Volvos to 2 wire internally regulated Delco alternators that last forever and can be replaced anywhere. The pivot (bung?) has to be cut off to the same length as the volvo's and drilled out bigger to the 9/16"? bolt size. Line up both alternators end to end and it is easy to see were to cut with a hack saw and other than that, they line up great. Sawsall's would be even easier nowadays.

The sliding adjusting bracket needs to be cut in half and a new piece of bar stock welded on at an angle to reach around the Delco alternator to reach the adjusting bolt. You could cut two brackets to make one with an angle. I have been told by people at the 1800 picture forum that you can get a new curved adjusting bar at any auto supply store.?? I will run up to Napa tomorrow an see.

I had to get the 2 wire alternator clip from a donor GM car in the junk yard, but I can't remember how to wire it up and I'm not near my car to look. Anybody know? One wire goes to the ignition switch B+(?) and the other goes to the charging indicator light. Any body have a wiring diagram and can clarify this?

I also can't remember what size belt to use, but that shouldn't be too difficult to figure out.

Like I said, It has been a very long time since I had to replace my alternators since converting over and I am sure that a one wire alternator would be even easier. Just hook up the wire that goes to the charge indicator light.?
