Removing driver's side heated mirror lens S90-V90

Okay, my heated mirror works on the right side, but not the left. I had the driver's side panel off and found out that I do get 12volts to the mirror with the heated switch on.

However, I can't remove the mirror lens. My Volvo mechanic and me have looked up the little hole on the bottom of the mirror housing and have worked at it with a screwdriver and can't find the lever to rotate - in fact there is nothing to rotate. I've already scuffed my paint on the mirror housing trying to gently coax and pry the lens out. It almost looks like it snaps in. I thought about buying a new lens (about $70.00) and breaking my current lens with a ball pin hammer, but what if that was not the problem, i'd feel pretty silley. All suggestions welcomed!

thanks,

Mr. 960
