Shiny Parts: what type of metal; how to polish? 120-130

I hope to get my car painted this Spring so I have done some body work and I took almost all the adornments off the car. I'd like to get them all shiny before I put them on to the freshly painted Amazon.

What are the best ways you know to make shiny and protect these types of metal:

Aluminum -- ?
Chromed Steel -- ?
Chromed Potmetal -- ?
Chromed Plastic -- ?
Stainless Steel -- ?
Bakelite (not metal, I know) but is very dull or brownish on many of my parts) -- ?

For me and the interest of all 122 lovers, please fill in the type of metal for each part:

Trim along sides of car (spears), dashboard --
Bumpers, overriders --
Trunk handles --
Door handles (in and out), window cranks --
Windshield surrounds and drip rails --
Outside tops of door below windows --
Air vent cowl (outside) --
Stick shift --
Instrument panel bezel --
Knob bezels (like fan, wiper) --
Shiny strip on interior door panels --
Stamped "Volvo' board at bottom of door entries --
Heater/air control panel --
Ash tray surrounds --
Trim around taillights, turn signals --
Headlight rings --
Grill surrounds and crossbars (early models) --
Hood trim --
Emblems and V O L V O letters --
Anything I forgot --

Thank you for for sharing your knowledge!
