Charging system woes 140-160

No offense, but is a sample size of 1 really a fair evaluation of all Delco, Bosch, and Motorola alternators?

Within my customer base, there are 9 pushrod Volvos with Delco conversions (I know this, because I make a note of Delco fitted cars). 7 of those have failed in the last 3 or 4 years (this failure rate is why I make a note of Delco fitted cars). In the same period of time, I've had to deal with 2 failed Bosch units out of 35 or 40 customers' cars.

To be fair, it's possible that the Delco fitted cars I've met didn't start off with a new alternator. Maybe they came from salvage yards and sat out in the rain or something similar.

I'm not saying Bosch is better or worse; nor am I saying that Delco is better or worse. Only that a fair evaluation of one versus another might include a larger sample size.
