B230F Engine Sound 200 1990

Hello All,

I'm new to the Brickboard and new to Volvos. I just purchased a 1990 240 with 110K miles. It was well taken care of, very clean, and the carfax shows it was serviced every 5K at a Volvo dealership. To me the engine sounds kind of like a diesel. No knocking or tapping just a strong "ra-ra-ra" sound like a diesel. Is this normal for a B230F to sound this way. I've never been around Volvos before to hear how the engines sound. The engine shakes just a little when idling but is otherwise fine and doesn't burn oil. So far I've replaced the plugs, plug wires, cap, and rotor which seemed to smooth out the idle a little.

I really like my "new" 240. Its a real cool car and is very easy to work on.

Thanks,
Preston
