Nate
I have no experience with the Petronix in an old Volvo, but I have installed this system in a 1971 MG and before in a 1965 Fiat and was very pleased.
The system came with good instructions was very easy to install and together with a new higher voltage coil I never had a starting problem and both cars ran better tghan with the points and needed ofcoarse a lot less maintenance.
I would recommend doing this to any old car if you want to drive it (not show it as original)
Good luck
