Check Engine and code question 900

Since fixing my AW71 tranny ('93 944T)I have been driving without any problems through rain, snow, ice, sunny weather her in West Michigan for 1,500 miles. Until this afternoon after I went for lunch. She started fine drove fine to the restaurant (5 miles).
After lunch she started fine I backed out of parking space and when trying to pull into the road she bogged down (no power) she would idle, but stalled when applying gas. I noticed check engine light. Pulled aside started her again but could not get rpm over 1500 in neutral/park. Shut her off, started her again and was able to rev her up. Not to hold traffic up behind me I pulled away from the traffic light and she seemed to be fine. Stopped again to visit a client and 15 minutes later she started fine, drove fine, but still shows check engine.
Is this a fluke with just a bad start/OBC due to 30 deg F (-1C) and high humidity (snowing) weather.
An inspection under the hood did not show anything visual wrong. I hear a lot of talk about diagnostic codes on this forum,
Where can I find these codes?
Do I need a special tool to extract these codes?
Is there a list of what the codes are?
Does a disconnect of the battery terminals reset my light?
Thanks,
