The dreaded air pump S90-V90 1998

Group:
1998 S90 with 100K miles
I got a air pump malfunction code last week.
I swapped out two relays and then the air pump ran, but that is not conclusive.
The 50 amp fuse is OK.
The pump has been running recently and I have not yet turned off the CE light.
This AM I stared the car and felt of the pump.
It was vibrating but not making the characteristic sound.
Then it cam on and made that sound.

Is the pump having trouble starting?
Will the possible malfunction damage anything?
Can I wait till spring to fix it?
Do I need to oil it somewhere?

Winter is always tough on cars.
