black out chrome trim 900 1997

Has anyone blacked out their 960? My chrome trim all around side windows is severely oxidized or whatever the damage is called. I have tried some chrome polish but nothing really looks acceptable. Just looking for some ideas here. I have heard something about black tape, how about new chrome trim from Volvo? Anyone?

Desperately trying to keep my cosmetic performance up to the same standards as the mechanical prowess of my newly refreshed 960.
