Help! No brake lights! 200 1987

The brake light fuse in my 240 (1987) keeps blowing, leaving me without brake lights. About a month before that started, I replaced the taillight cluster but couldn't find the magic formula that extinguishes the bulb-out indicator on the dashboard. So every time I hit the brakes that light would come on, but now the fuse keeps blowing. Any suggestions greatly appreciated. Thanks much.
