snow tires, handling and alignment 200

FYI re.snow tires, handling and alignment

A misalignment that's tolerable with regular tires may be unacceptable with two or four snow tires. If handling is not good with two or four snow tires, consider having the wheels aligned.

With snow tires on the rear and nice all-season tires on the front wheels, handling was awful. Steering had been a bit twichy with four regular tires, but with two snows on the rear it was much worse.

My mechanic spotted the alignment problem from the uneven tire wear. They weren't cupped, but the tread had a sort of slope as you move from the tread edge in towards the center of the tread area.

The difference after an alignment was very noticeable.
