clicking noise driving me nuts 200 1986

my 244dl is making a crazy clicking noise in rapid succession in the center console. It sounds like a relay clicking...it is very prominent and I even considered that it could be the blower blades from the heater contacting the housing momentarily.....as the clicks occur most frequently over harsh bumps....turning off the fan and still hearing the intermittend rapid fire clicks told me otherwise. are there any relays back there? nothing seems to be malfucntioning at all....it is just the mystery noise that is bugging the hell out of me
