back up light lense 200 1993

The backup light lense on my 93 wagon just disappeared, I bought a replacement at the local Volvo parts store (aftermarket piece). I thought the lense was just supposed to snap in since the original seemed to have just popped out!

Question: The lense seems to has a lip all around the back side of the edge but there doesn't seem to be a grove in the lamp housing. Is there really a grove there that has black sealer that I just need to scrap out? The black area looks like part of the plastic housing and I don't want to take a chance on damaging it if its not old sealer.

Thanks in advance for a response
