New 240 Front Strut Mounts Failing Rapidly, Why? 200 1993

About 5,000 miles ago I replaced the front struts and strut mounts. I used a replacement boot/shield kit from KYB as well as KYB strut inserts. The mounts were aftermarket, the brand for which I now forget.

Now I see the rubber cracking and failing when viewed from the top of the mount. It looks as if the bearing is going to blow right out through the rubber at some point soon.

I'm wondering if somehow I left off a critical part in the assembly or if this is just another case of aftermarket rubber parts being ****.

Your advice is appreciated!

John
