240 M46 speedometer drives. Anybody have a J-type apart on the bench? 200 1979

I want to switch the M45 in my 79 242 for a M46 from a 1986 244. The problem is the M46 has no speedometer drive and the rear housing on the OD pumpkin was never machined to fit one even though the casting is otherwise identical to the earlier ones. I have access to an OD pumpkin from an earlier 240 with the drive gear. That brings up several questions:

Does the output shaft still have teeth machined into it for a speedo drive gear to attach to?

Is the rear housing relatively easy to remove from the pumpkin? Replace?

If the output shaft has no speedo drive teeth is it relatively easy to swap shafts from the other OD unit?

Since I have access to the OD unit (Jim if you read this you know who I'm talking about) I can find out all the answers myself, but if I know what I'm up against in advance it will help me to plan the job. And maybe another brickster is considering the same conversion.
