Pulse Air Question 200

Hi Everyone,

I have an '81 240 GL with a B23E engine w/ K-jet. It's a Canadian model with the Pulse Air EGR system.

For a while now the engine's been sounding like it has an air leak (i.e. kinda like the sound an air cooled engine makes) but I couldn't tell where the sound was coming from. I finally figured it out today. After starting up the car and before it got too hot I slid my hand between the cylinder head and the firewall and I could feel pulses of air coming out of the metal Pulse Air system pipe that runs along underneath the exhaust manifold, around the back of the engine and ties into the FI system beneath the intake manifold.

I'm guessing that the Pulse Air pipe is cracked or has a hole in it.

Should I be concerned about this ? Is it worth trying to fix or should I just leave it alone ? Should I try to replace that pipe ? If I do try to replace it will I have to remove the intake manifold to be able to do it or can it be done while leaving everything else in place ?

Anybody else ever have this problem ? What did you do about it ?

Thanks,

Roger
