power window doesn't close tight 700 1989

If you pull off the door panel, there are nuts retaining the power window mechanism (the regulator) to the door inner shell. They're 10mm (M6) bolts or nuts depending on the location, and they go through slotted holes in the door.

They can be loosened, and the window regulator repositioned, then tightened back down. Probably want to lower the window just a bit before repositioning.

It is possible that the regulator has been damaged, or even that the plastic "tuning fork" guides have been damaged. In some cases this stuff can be taken apart and put back together so it works better, but with some of these doors, and I don't know off hand what you've got in an 89 door, if it's a plastic window regulator mechanism it may have to be replaced to get correct alignment again.

The problem you describe I've seen many times and sometimes it can simply be adjusted out and sometimes it requires a new and rather pricy window regulator. Note if you go asking for it, your dealer probably DOES have one in stock- that's how often they break.

I know the older ones (my old 88 for example) had an all-metal type that could be repaired (a good thing) but also could fall apart and drop the window (obviously a not good thing). My 2 90's seem to have a composite type, so I don't know when the change is made.

First step is to follow the 700FAQ instructions to get into the door, and see if can simply be adjusted. Costs nothing to try, but be certain all the fasteners are removed, don't force anything or you'll have broken plastic and damaged door panel backing.

Good luck with it!
