Dashboard is like a Christmas Tree 700 1989

I have an 89 780 and have been having an issue with the wiring from the alternator. I built a fusible link to help and it was working fine. I used an 8 gage wire with a 40 amp fuse. I noticed last night that the power gage on my dash was well past the middle and I smelled something odd. I shut the car off and when I turned it back on almost every light on the dash stayed on (except the ABS) and the SRS light is blinking morse code at me. Also, the green light around my AC button is blinking off and on like a runway light.

the only thing I can figure is that somehow too much power got back into the battery through the link and blew something or overloaded something. I've never seen that happen before and after looking through the FAQ I don't see anything on this. If anyone has any ideas it would be most helpful

TIA
