Hall Effect Electrical Connector Question 200 1985

Picked up a new electrical connector housing from Volvo and installed it today, but have a silly question. What is the black tab on the plastic housing that hits the center metal shield and why is it there? I have a picture so you can see what I'm talking about. Might be a bit blurry, but is was dark outside.

Since the old connector was broken, I did not see exactly where the tab was located. Installing the new connector went ok, but was a bit difficult because the wires are so short. I haven't tried to start the car yet, so I don't know if this will fix the no-start problem I posted about a few days ago. I had enough fun for one night and decided to wait until tomorrow to see if it starts.
