OD drops out suddenly for no reason 200 1979

The overdrive in my '79 242 gave me a fit as I was driving around tonight.

This car has a M-46 transmission.

The OD started dropping out and then coming back on in rapid succession as I was driving on the freeway. It has never done this before (although I haven't owned the car for all that long.)

The light on the dash stayed on the whole time. I doubled checked the fuse anyway and it was okay.

I'm not sure where to start. This is the first serious OD problem I've had on any of my volvos.

Thanks as always.
