Stranded, what to do? 900

1991, 940SE turbo. The shift lever had play. Replaced the donut type ring under the car where it attaches to linkage to transmission. The shifter feels like in a new car. Drove it for two days. Yesterday after work car refused to start. Stranded 25 miles away from home. All the instrument lights works and the battery is two years old. Tried to jump start but to no avail. When key is turned to start position nothing happens. Seems as if there is some safety switch that has been turned off. Left the car at work. Please suggest what I should look into before calling the tow truck to get it towed.
Thanks as always
Ram
