You can bridge the regulator & take it out of the equation to test for a faulty regulator.

The diodes tend to die in the SEV's & they aren't really worth replacing. Here in Australia, all injected cars have the 55A SEV, carb cars have a 35A SEV or rarely a 35A Bosch.

I typically adapt something else from a local Ford or Holden. I like the Bosch units from our local 302/351 Clevelands because they have a bigger pulley for a bit of underdrive on my four bangers. All it needs is the bottom boss drilled out to 1/2" & the boss narrowed to Volvo width & then the pulley lines up.
