Variable pitched high freqency whine/whistle; Center support bearing?? 200 1989

89 244 AW71 185K

On two occasions recently in temperatures of single digits or the teens I have heard a whine or a whistle like noise. As speed increases the pitch is higher. It is independent of the engine; coasting in neutral causes the whine to decrease as the car slows.

The center support bearing is original on the car. I have not had center support bearing problems before so I only guessing that this might be the source of the noise.

Has anyone had a similiar experience? Thanks.

Randy
