Pondering a tranny swap 120-130

I'm a bit fed up with my BW35, it works like it should, but compared to other transmissions it's sluggish and higher maintenance. Since I've got the wider tunnel from having the automatic model I figure I have enough room to comfortably fit a modern manual trans. How is this done? I'm not sure what transmission to use, I've heard of people doing it with a T5, but apparently John Parker from VPD, which makes conversion parts, hasn't been answering orders and stuff.
