How to resurrect a 142E? 140-160 1971

I'm closer to getting it running. With the help of a local 140/160 fan we managed to get the fuel pump pressurising. I found that the pump was all gummed up. Stripping it down and de-gumming made it hum again, but it still doesn't have the suck to prime from the tank. We started by fitting a hose to the inlet and filling the hose with fuel to prime it. Then we thought it would be easier to put the other end of that hose into a gallon fuel can. Now we have healthy fuel pressure.

I have pulled all the injectors after I found that none of them clicked when the throttle was moved. I pushed in the injector needles from the squirty end and one of them seems to have come to life again. The other three now seem to be stuck open. I'll leave them soaking submerged in petrol for a day or two and see if they are any better.

I can't work out why the fuel pump won't draw from the tank. I added another gallon so it has 2 gallons in it now. When the fuel pump was disconnected I blew into the hose that comes from the tank and I can hear bubbling (although there is a bit of back pressure). How much fuel does a tank need from bone dry until the fuel pump can self prime? Are there any tricks to priming the pump?

I'll keep trying for a while to get it going. On the plus side for all the 142 fans - the guy helping me today is possibly interested in resurrecting the car as a carburetted version after I have taken off it what I want.
